WHITE TEA MAY BE EFFECTIVE IN THE PREVENTION OF PRÉ-DIABETS

Regular consumption of black tea is effective in the prevention of stroke and cardiac complications associated with pre-diabetes. These are the findings of an investigation conducted in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Beira Interior.

This can be a simple, effective and economical preventive strategy with proven cardio and neuroprotective activity in pre-diabetic individuals. It is also hypothesized to come to be used as a complement to a healthy lifestyle, characterized by a balanced diet combined with moderate exercise.

According to investigators, the daily consumption of white tea, rich in antioxidants, reduces the effects of intermediate hyperglycemia and consequent oxidative stress in the heart and brain.

Aware of the difference that white tea may have to combat chronic diseases, the research group plans to continue with the analysis of the effects of the plant in other diseases such as Alzheimer's.
